Nationwide vehicle shipping services

Auto Transport Built Around the Actual Move.

The right way to ship a vehicle depends on more than mileage. Vehicle condition, dimensions, modifications, value, route, timing, loading requirements and carrier availability can all change the plan. Summit coordinates the shipment around those real details instead of forcing every move into the same generic quote.

Six transport categories. One standard for getting the details right.

The categories below are not separate sales packages. They are practical ways to identify what the vehicle and shipment require before a carrier is assigned. Many moves overlap. A modified Land Cruiser, for example, may need both build-specific planning and a decision between open and enclosed equipment.

01

Open Auto Transport

Open transport is the standard choice for most everyday cars, trucks and SUVs. It offers the broadest carrier availability and is generally the most economical way to move a normal running vehicle across the country.

The route, vehicle size, timing, condition and access still matter. Open does not mean one flat price or one identical carrier setup.

02

Enclosed Auto Transport

Enclosed transport reduces exposure to weather and road debris and uses a smaller, more specialized carrier pool. It is commonly considered for classic, exotic, collector, restored, luxury, show and low-clearance vehicles.

Clearance and loading method matter as much as the trailer walls. The right equipment should be matched before dispatch.

03

Modified Vehicle Transport

Lift kits, oversized tires, armor, bumpers, wheel offset, custom suspension, roof equipment and added weight can make factory specifications useless for carrier selection.

We plan around actual height, width, clearance, weight, operability and the equipment installed on the vehicle.

04

Overland Vehicle Transport

Overland rigs concentrate transport challenges in roof height, rear equipment, tire size, accumulated weight and permanently installed travel gear. Rooftop tents, awnings, racks and rear carriers all become part of the transport geometry.

That is why we quote the rig you built, not the stock vehicle in a database.

05

Land Cruiser Transport

Land Cruisers deserve their own category because Summit has years of direct experience with the trucks and the community around them. Stock classics, restored FJs, 80s, 100s, 200s and heavily outfitted expedition builds can require very different transport plans.

Lift, tires, armor, roof gear, value and operability are treated as dispatch information from the start.

Dealer & Auction Transport

Commercial and auction moves add operational details that private-party shipments may not have. Release numbers, gate passes, lot locations, pickup hours, keys, operability, storage deadlines and delivery contacts can determine whether the truck actually gets loaded.

We coordinate the transportation side around those real pickup requirements.

Planning before you book

Understand the price, equipment, and sales claims before you book.

The guides below explain the carrier-market factors behind pricing, equipment selection, built-vehicle fit, and unusually low quotes so you can compare the actual shipment instead of only the headline number.

What actually changes the plan

Transport method follows the vehicle, route, and priorities.

Choosing a service is less about picking a label and more about identifying the facts that affect carrier fit. Summit uses those facts to decide which part of the carrier market should be approached and what information needs to be disclosed before pickup.

FACTOR 01

Vehicle & Condition

Year, make and model are only the starting point. Running condition, ground clearance, body condition, low aero, modifications, tire size and unusual dimensions can all affect loading and equipment.

FACTOR 02

Route & Carrier Market

Major metro lanes usually have more carrier traffic than rural or remote routes. Season, fuel, freight balance, weather and the direction of demand can change what carriers will accept on a given week.

FACTOR 03

Timing & Access

Flexible windows usually create more options than a hard one-day pickup. Auction hours, dealership access, residential streets, low trees, gated communities and delivery restrictions should be identified before the carrier arrives.

Specialty vehicles need better information

The quote is only as useful as the vehicle details behind it.

Many preventable transport problems begin with a quote that assumes the vehicle is stock, running and easy to load. That approach fails quickly when a vehicle is tall, wide, low, heavy, inoperable, restored or outfitted for off-road travel.

DIM

Actual Dimensions

Measure overall height when lift, tires, roof racks, rooftop tents, antennas, campers or other equipment change the factory profile. Width matters when tires, wheels, flares or axles extend beyond normal dimensions.

RUN

Operability

If the vehicle does not run, tell us whether it rolls, steers and brakes. A non-running vehicle may need a winch-capable carrier, and a vehicle that cannot roll freely can require a different loading plan entirely.

CLR

Loading Clearance

Low front splitters, side skirts, long wheelbases, custom bumpers and suspension changes affect approach angles. Very low vehicles may need specialized enclosed equipment or other loading accommodations.

BLD

Installed Equipment

Armor, bumpers, winches, rear swing-outs, rooftop tents, awnings, drawers, campers and spare carriers affect dimensions and weight. On overland vehicles and other modified builds, those details are part of the transport specification.

VAL

Condition & Value

A normal daily driver and a freshly restored collector vehicle can travel the same route but justify different equipment. Enclosed transport can reduce exposure when the vehicle's condition, clearance or owner priorities warrant it.

COM

Commercial Release Details

For dealer and auction shipments, release status, gate information, pickup hours, keys and lot location are part of the move. A carrier cannot solve missing release paperwork at the gate.

Open, enclosed, or specialty fit?

Start with what the vehicle actually needs.

For a standard car, truck or SUV, open auto transport is usually the first option to evaluate. If the vehicle is rare, restored, exotic, very low or especially sensitive to normal road exposure, compare enclosed auto transport. If the vehicle is lifted or built, start with the modified vehicle or overland guidance so the dimensions and equipment are understood before trailer type is selected.

What Summit actually does

A broker should coordinate the move, not hide how it works.

Summit Auto Transport is a licensed vehicle transport broker. We do not pretend the truck belongs to us. We coordinate the shipment, work the carrier market, communicate the real vehicle requirements and remain your point of contact while the assigned motor carrier performs the transportation.

STEP 01

Define the Shipment

We start with the route, timing, vehicle condition and any details that change normal carrier fit. That may mean a simple stock vehicle description or a full set of measurements and photos for a built rig.

STEP 02

Coordinate the Carrier

We evaluate the market and communicate the shipment to motor carriers whose equipment, route and timing make sense. Carrier authority and insurance information are reviewed before dispatch.

STEP 03

Stay With the Move

Pickup and delivery are performed by the assigned carrier, but Summit remains your direct transport contact for coordination, updates and questions from booking through delivery.

Auto transport service FAQ

Start with the questions that change the shipment.

There is no single transport method that is automatically right for every vehicle. The useful questions are the ones that identify equipment, access, condition and carrier-market requirements before dispatch.

Most everyday vehicles move well on open transport. Enclosed transport is often chosen for collector, exotic, restored, low-clearance or especially sensitive vehicles. Modified and overland vehicles should be evaluated from their actual dimensions and equipment rather than factory specifications.
Yes. Lifted trucks, modified SUVs, Jeeps, overland rigs and other built vehicles can usually be transported when actual height, width, tire size, weight, clearance, added equipment and operability are disclosed before carrier assignment.
Yes. Summit coordinates dealer transfers, auction purchases, commercial vehicle moves and specialty inventory shipments. Release status, pickup requirements, keys, operability and access should be confirmed before dispatch.
Pricing depends on the route, vehicle, size, condition, equipment, timing, pickup and delivery access, season and current carrier availability. Summit prices around the actual carrier market rather than a generic mileage formula.
